Mauritania vs Sudan Match Preview:

Mauritania made it two wins out of two for the first time since June 2021 when they defeated Libya 2-0 in their most recent friendly match on March 29.

Aboubakar Kamara opened the scoring in the 39th minute before 24-year-old Hemeya Tanjy secured the result from the penalty spot 13 minutes into the second half.

This followed a 2–1 win over Mozambique on 26 March, when Mouhamed Soueid and Lamine Ba scored on both sides of Melque Alexandre’s equalizer in the 90th minute to give Al-Murabitun a thrilling victory.

Prior to both friendly victories, Amir Abdou’s men suffered elimination in the group stage of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations as they lost each of their three matches to finish bottom of Group F.

Mauritania, seeking to secure their third consecutive African Cup of Nations appearance, enter the weekend winless in all but one of their last 12 competitive outings, losing nine and claiming two draws.

Their only victory in that time came in December 2021, when they defeated Syria 2-1 at Al Janoub Stadium in Group B of the Arab Cup thanks to goals from Soueid and Tanjy.

Sudan, on the other hand, had a share of the spoils for the second game in a row last time when they drew 1-1 with Tanzania on March 29.

After a goalless draw with the Central African Republic at home on 26 March, Burhan Tia’s men traveled to the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, where Siddig Gahdia and Simon Msuva scored for both sides to force a share of the spoils.

Like Mauritania, this followed a disappointing run at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were sent packing in the group stage after picking up one point from a possible nine in Group D.

The Secretarybirds have now failed to taste victory in any of their last 15 games in all competitions, losing nine and recording six draws since a 1-0 win over Libya in the Arab Cup qualifiers in June 2021.
